The world shrinks these days. Places where I travelled in the past, like the Sinai desert, Pakistan (did I ever tell about Pakistan?) or even Turkey aren't tempting anymore. It's not only about being afraid; I don't want to be as a tourist in a country where people are in fear, hate or in deep trouble. But now, with this weekend's attempted attack in the Thalys train between Amsterdam and Paris, terror has somehow arrived practically at my doorstep. Globalisation at worst. Somehow, we as human beings do not contribute that much to more humaneness on this planet.

Die Welt schrumpft. Orte, an die ich früher gereist bin wie die Sinaiwüste, Pakistan (habe ich je von Pakistan erzählt?) oder sogar die Türkei sind nicht mehr wirklich verlockend. Es geht nicht nur darum, ob man Angst haben muss; ich möchte als Tourist nicht irgendwo sein, wo die Menschen in Furcht, Angst oder großen Schwierigkeiten leben. Aber mit dem versuchten Attentat am Wochenende im Thalys zwischen Amsterdam und Paris, ist der Terror schon fast an meiner Haustür angelangt. Die schlimmste Form der Globalisierung. Irgendwie tragen wir Menschen nicht unbedingt zu mehr Menschlichkeit auf diesem Planeten bei.
